Tanner told us he and a friend were going to the Festival of Colors today. I had heard about it and heard it was pretty amazing so we decided to take the boys. It was at the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork. There were thousands of people there to celebrate the coming of spring with this colorful festival.
In India, Holi announces the arrival of Spring and the passing of Winter. People are seen dancing, singing and throwing colors on each other. The festival is meant to bring home the lesson of spiritual and social harmony. The festival of Holi includes a bonfire which metaphorically is meant to signify the destruction of evil-the burning of "Holika", a mythological demon. The heat from the fire is a reminder that winter is behind and that the hot summer days are ahead..
The colors are really quite beautiful and you can see them from afar as colorful clouds in the air around the temple. Everyone is happy--singing, dancing, and enjoying life! What a great way to bring in the new season!
This was so much fun! The boys had a blast. We may have to make this a family tradition to welcome in the Spring Season!
